Concrete Aprons
A concrete apron is an extension of a slab either in front of a garage door, or around the perimeter of the building. The concrete is used to provide an additional transition from grade to slab and offers an easy way to fix a sunken driveway. Concrete aprons help to direct water away from the building and can provide an aesthetically pleasing and unique design to your driveway.
Sunken Driveway Apron Paving
If you notice that your driveway is starting to sink then you are probably asking yourself ‘why’. There are a number of possible reasons to this question. The pressure of the sun, snow, ice and rain can all negatively impact your driveway as can the regular wear and tear of driving over it. An apron is designed to filter out water. If the water is pooled up on this area, then the pressure can get to be too much, especially over a couple of years.
A concrete apron should be installed as part of your driveway. At Plan Concrete & Asphalt we work with both new and existing homes and commercial lots to either install an apron or a completely new concrete driveway that offers you protection against sinking.
Asphalt or Concrete Aprons
You can choose to use either concrete or asphalt for your apron. You are able to use asphalt if the garage foundation blocks are damage. Our team will also need to install a compacted base if you are using asphalt. Asphalt is generally less expensive than concrete and is also quite flexible to use. Concrete is more durable than asphalt and is also the green alternative as it is made from renewable resources such as limestone and sand. Be sure to compare your options and weigh the pros and cons of both substances when determining the right apron for your area.
Installing a Concrete Apron
Installing a concrete or asphalt apron starts with a free estimate and a meeting with you. We will go over the design, installation and costs so you are completely familiar with what will happen. We can answer any questions you have about the time, scheduling and procedure and determine the best apron for your budget. You may want to choose something more decorative to liven up your outdoor area by choosing bricks or cobblestone rather than
concrete or asphalt. We will go over the different costs involved in all your material choices.
We will remove the sunken asphalt or concrete, load it up and haul it away before re-basing the sunken area and filling in any holes. We will inspect the foundation for problems before laying the new material.

If you are looking for something more decorative than a plain concrete apron, you can also try using bricks or cobblestones. Although more expensive, they are more eye pleasing than a concrete apron.
